SEAi: why being found is no longer enough

Google is replacing ten blue links with one composed answer. You are either in that answer or you do not exist. Here is what changes and how to play it.

Search engine advertising and AI search

In May 2026, at its I/O conference, Google announced something new. In Google’s own words it is “a new era for Search”, the biggest change to the search bar in more than twenty-five years. The heart of it: from now on you simply ask your question, and you get one composed answer back. No more ten blue links to choose from. One answer, straight from the AI.

For most brands this is very bad news. For sharp business owners it is one of the biggest opportunities in decades. Here is why, and how you turn it to your advantage.

The end of the list, and the biggest opening in ten years

The numbers do not lie. In Google’s AI mode, more than nine out of ten searches now end without anyone clicking through to a website at all. Across all searches, roughly six out of ten no longer produce a click. The blue links have not disappeared entirely, but they have become a sideshow.

SEO was built for the world of the list. You climbed the ranking, and position three was actually fine, there was always some traffic to pick up. In an AI answer, position three does not exist. There is no page two. There is one answer, and either you are in it or you do not exist.

SEO. SEA. And now SEAi.

You already know the two classic pillars of search marketing. SEO gets you found organically. SEA puts you at the top by paying for it. Now a third pillar joins them: SEAi, the craft of being the answer the AI gives.

The difference is not some new trick. It is a fundamentally different logic. SEO optimizes for an algorithm that ranks pages. SEAi optimizes for a model that composes answers. A search engine asks itself: “which page best matches this keyword?” An AI model asks something else entirely: “which source do I trust enough to quote?”

Getting quoted is the new ranking

You may lose the click. But you get something better in return: you get quoted. And that is no small thing.

When the AI names your brand as a source, that is a vote of confidence. It quotes you because it believes you. And what it trusts, it recommends: your brand, your product, your service, right inside the answer your customer is looking at. A mention in an AI answer is no longer a traffic source. It is a recommendation.

To get there, Google’s AI is looking for two things: your expertise, and content that genuinely helps people. Not generic copy. Real answers to real questions. That is exactly where it tips, and exactly where most brands leave it lying.

How you become the AI answer

The AI needs something to draw from. So it all comes down to one question: do you answer the questions your customers actually ask better than anyone else?

For that, our own AI tool extracts the most frequently asked questions straight out of the AI search engines and out of Google, and delivers the answers you feed your content with. No guessing at keywords, but knowing exactly which question your customer types, and giving the best answer that exists to it. That is how you become the source the AI picks on its own.

The stakes are higher than ever

Search used to split traffic across ten results. Everybody picked up a share. Today your customer asks an AI a question, and it names one company. Is that your name, or your competitor’s?

Whoever is the first answer gets the conversation, the enquiry, the customer. Whoever comes second gets nothing, because there is no second place left to see. Winner takes all, on every single search.

Become the first answer

SEO taught you to be found in a list. But the list is disappearing. What remains is the answer, and the question of whether you are it.

That is what SEAi stands for. Not turning up somewhere among the results. Not paying to sit at the top for a moment. But becoming the source the AI picks by itself.

In short

What is SEAi?

SEAi is the craft of being the answer an AI gives, a third pillar of search marketing next to SEO, which gets a business found organically, and SEA, which puts it at the top by paying. SEO optimizes for an algorithm that ranks pages, while SEAi optimizes for a model that composes answers and asks which source it trusts enough to quote.

How does Google's AI mode affect website traffic?

Google's AI mode sharply reduces clicks to websites: more than nine out of ten searches in AI mode end without anyone clicking through to a website. Across all searches, roughly six out of ten no longer produce a click. Google announced the shift at its I/O conference in May 2026, replacing the list of blue links with one composed answer.

How does a business get recommended in AI answers?

A business gets recommended in AI answers by answering the questions its customers actually ask better than anyone else. Google's AI looks for expertise and content that genuinely helps people, not generic copy. One approach is an AI tool that extracts the most frequently asked questions from AI search engines and Google, so content gives the best answer to each one.
